List Engagement IM Checklist Review
Introduction: List Engagement IM Checklist
Kevin Fahey has built a reputation as the master of Internet Marketing (IM) Checklists. So much so that he has published 40 volumes of them. His latest is List Engagement IM Checklist.
I signed up in 2020 to Kevin Fahey’s IM Checklist Gold 2020 membership. That has given me access to all the 2020 checklists and each of the new ones he produces – volume 40 is the latest in this series and covers the topic of List Engagement.
The checklists – there are always 18 of them in a volume – go through all the steps you need to follow to accomplish a set outcome. In this case the topic is all about List Engagement.
Why Consider IM List Engagement Checklist?
According to salesforce.com, the average return for email marketing is 38 dollars for every $1 invested. That is a ROI of 3800% and a great reason to work hard to keep your email subscribers engaged and your list active. Matt Bacak, the master of split testing emails always talks about $42 per dollar.
I did a little digging on email list engagement and found this line
Building a successful email campaign means nothing if you don’t have an engaged email list.
An email list brings your fans from your varying channels to one central location, giving you more control over how you send your messages, when you can send them, and what you are saying in them.
Now a little more data –
Statistics show that 72% of people prefer receiving promotions via email when compared to the 17% who prefer to receive them through social media.
Sadly, building a list is not enough in a competitive and spam-filled world. List quality is an essential ingredient.
Now what are the factors that make for poor list quality. This chart helps pin down some of the factors that drive poor list quality – mind you the data is now well dated but the lessons still apply

My List Engagement Story
As I work through the List Engagement checklists, I have done a bit of an audit to see how well I have done. I started building my current lists two and a half years ago. Subscribers have come largely from solo ads with a few from my blogsite and some traffic exchange sources. I did make a few mistakes early on in not understanding how my autoresponder tracked open rates. All the gurus at the time were saying to send email in plain text form and that is what I did. Getresponse cannot track open rates for plain text form – they can only track that for html emails. So for quite some time I was flying blind – I could only see if action was happening when someone clicked a link.
Lesson number one in email marketing engagement is to leverage open rates. For example, look to send different emails to openers vs non-openers after the first email for each promotion,. The strategy step is to segment the lists between openers and non-openers and then stream content accordingly. Maybe ask questions of the non-openers to find what might pique their attention or interest.
Why bother with segmentation?
Campaign Monitor saw that marketers witnessed a 760% increase in email revenue from segmented campaigns and MailChimp saw segmented email campaigns having 14.31% more opens and 100.95% more clicks compared to non-segmented email campaigns.
This introduces the next challenge with my autoresponder. I started using Getresponse a long time ago and have been sitting on a legacy plan which did not include automation – that got me not paying attention to segmentation. At the time, I also bought into a new autoresponder platform (SendReach) that had segmentation tools based on demographics. The plan was to migrate across from Getresponse and leverage the demographics data – that did not happen and then that platform stopped support for the product. Whew! one might say = a lucky escape.
Lesson: Use the metrics the autoresponder provides
What is the big lesson from my failure? Use the data your autoresponder provides you and adjust your campaigns accordingly. I have been trying that to a level – open rates were low especially on my big list, so I started to explore a wider range of topics to talk about to find interest levels. That is not enough – one needs to segment the replies and then work with the segmented lists according to the interest they showed. It is simple enough to think through but quite hard to execute – especially when the list sizes get large.
What is the point of all this story telling?
Kevin Fahey has complied the checklists to help you with your list engagement. They tell you the questions you need to ask and suggest the research you need to do and the data you need to gather. Start your email marketing journey with these checklists and you will avoid a lot of missteps along the way – and you will spend less on your autoresponder service. Mostly they charge on a tiered basis for numbers of subscribers – they do not really care if your list is unengaged – they will keep mailing and charging.
There is no doubt I can get good value out of using List Engagement IM Checklist – you can too!!
PLR Power and this IM Checklist
This is a Private Label Rights (PLR) product. You can make it your own and sell it as your own. The PLR rights are a little different for the IM Checklists to others I have seen. You can edit them and change them around as much as you like. You can use them as a bonus for a paid product and you can add them to a paid membership site and you can turn them into video training course you sell. All that is pretty normal. The limits are that you may not convert them into an eBook and you may not sell them on JVZoo or WarriorPlus. I am going to guess that Clickbank will become off limits though the words do not say that. Of course, you can sell them from your own website as your own product.
The art of using PLR is to brand them as your own. In my review video, I started to show a way to convert them to an interactive checklist using a newish software tool called Kuicklist. This works really easily with a little cut and paste work and with some editing to get the flow and structure the way you would like and also to add in all your affiliate links in the detail.
The other way to use the checklists is to use them for blog post content – take one checklist and write a blog post. That is my plan over the next few weeks as I use the checklists to work though my email marketing business problem – an unengaged list. I will share the blog posts as I work through the list and test engagement levels – no selling – just content
Check the review video here – it is a little over 20 minutes and well worth the time.
I covered the main offer and the upgrades in the video but here they are again
